Lower Back Pain: Causes and Treatment

Lower back pain is a predominant problem among the people of today’s modern societies. Among the age groups in these societies it seems that it affects mostly young adults and middle-aged people. This complaint is especially frequent among those who do not exercise much and work in a chair most of the day and among those who do heavy lifting quite frequently. In fact, most people have at least one incident of back pain in their lives. The underlying causes of back pain can vary and can be the result of disease in the spine (cancer) or due to strain on the muscles. Back pain resulting from cancer in the spine tends to occur in the sacral or lumbar regions and can affect other locations in close proximity and it should be checked out.

Your back might ache due to a physical injury. These include: 1) a vertebral column compression fracture, 2) intervertebral disk rupture, 3) intervertebral injury in a joint, 4) strain in the lumbosacral region of the body, 5) vertebra process fractures, and 6) ligament and muscle back injuries.

Backaches Due to One Being Off-balance

A normal body should be able to stand erect but certain conditions cause the body to lean for extended periods of time in an unnatural way creating an off-balance condition. This could be because of 1) pregnancy, 2) large belly or pot belly, 3) one leg shorter than the other, 4) hip joint diseases, and 5) a congenital defect that caused an abnormal curvature in the spine.

Backaches Because of Spinal Tumors

Backaches can be caused by the following types of tumors: 1) metastatic tumors occurring in other organs of the body such as the kidneys, lungs, prostate, intestine, and others, or 2) bones or spinal cord with a primary tumor.

Gynecological Conditions Causing Backache

Gynecological conditions can cause backache to include: 1) uterus prolapse, 2) inflammatory diseases of the pelvis, 3) endometriosis, 4) cancerous lesions in pelvic organs, 5) post-childbirth, and 6) post-gynecological surgery.

Degenerative Diseases That Cause Backaches

The process of normal aging can bring on back problems such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and intervertebral disc degeneration.

Other Issues in the Body That Can Cause Backache

There can be any number of issues in the body that can create backaches. Some of these include: 1) Pancreatitis, 2) prostate cancer, 3) peptic ulcer, 4) pelvic organ inflammation, 5) biliary stones, 6) ureteric stones, blockage of the aorta and iliac arteries, and 8) renal stones.
